Self-reliance and sustainable enterprises for refugees and host communities in Ouallam (Niger)

This 3-year project aims at creating the enabling environment for economic empowerment of refugees and host communities through market-oriented livelihood support interventions. Based on the 2018 ILO-UNHCR market systems analysis, the project focuses on unlocking decent employment opportunities for refugees and host communities in the horticulture and waste management sectors. This project pursue 2 objectives: -Improving the livelihood and social cohesion of the refugees and host community members in the Ouallam department through market-based intervention in the horticulture value chain; -Improving the livelihood of the refugees and host community in the Ouallam department through the establishment of waste management systems in urban areas. The project intervenes following the 'Push' and 'Pull' approach.It address market and value chains development constraints in a systemic and inclusive way. The project will benefit at least 1,348 female and male beneficiaries, out of which at least 50% will be Malian refugees in Ouallam department in Tillabéry region. The project will engage with and strengthen the capacity of relevant government local technical services, as well as all value chain actors (producers, input suppliers, transporters, traders, service providers, etc.).
