Fostering Cooperative Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
The ILO has developed, upon the request of the MHRSD, a proposal for an additional thematic pillar on cooperative development to complement the second phase of the ILO-KSA Programme of Cooperation. To this purpose, the ILO will provide support to the Social Development Sector of the Ministry and other cooperative actors in the Kingdom. This new pillar will be governed by the overall management arrangements established under the Programme of Cooperation. In support of the MHRSD’s request, the ILO will support the achievement of this outcome through the delivery of the below five main outputs: - The National Cooperative Strategy and the Executive Regulation of the amended Cooperative Law are reviewed in line with international labour standards, the national context and international good practices; - The role of the Apex organization for cooperatives is adequately defined and enhanced; - The capacities of MHRSD, primary and secondary cooperatives and education institutions are enhanced; - A report on the state of national statistics concerning cooperatives in KSA and a roadmap towards improving them are produced and discussed with GASTAT; and - Awareness is raised about innovative cooperative experiences from around the world.
