Extending Social Protection Coverage to Workers in the Informal Economy in Lao PDR and Kenya and Leveraging Digital Transformation: through South-South Cooperation.
The main objective of the project is thus to improve the social protection situation for workers in the informal economy in Lao PDR and Kenya while contributing to the achievement of related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of social justice and decent work for all. In two focus countries, Lao PDR and Kenya, technical support will be provided through the ILO country offices with on demand technical support from ILO Geneva (on specific issues) to increase the coverage and access to social protection for workers in the informal economy by strengthening the policy design, administrative governance and operational efficiency. It will leverage digital technologies to improve access, efficiency, and effectiveness of social protection programs. Through partnerships, the project will also facilitate South-South collaboration, enabling the sharing of knowledge, resources, and expertise among ASEAN and African countries. The project is a direct contribution of the Government of China to ILO’s Flagship Programme on Building Social Protection Floors for All. It therefore contributes to the Theory of Change of the Flagship Programme and will use its results framework.
