Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean-bridge
The Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean (RBCLAC) was a four-year Action, (2019-2022) to promote responsible business conduct (RBC) in nine LAC countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama and Peru) financed by the European Union (EU) Partnership Instrument. This first Action aimed to promote smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the region by supporting RBC practices in line with international instruments. The instruments - namely the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct, the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), and the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy-, set the global expectations on RBC and are aligned and complement each other. The OECD, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the ILO, implement these Actions. The overarching objective of this 6-months bridge grant (January-June 2024) largely aligns with the initial RBC LAC Action and its transitional phase (2023), and aims at contributing to the promotion of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in the EU and Latin America and Caribbean by supporting responsible business conduct practices in line with internationally agreed principles set out in the UN, ILO and OECD instruments, and taking into account regulatory and policy developments on RBC and due diligence. This helps moving towards a level playing field by limiting unfair competition driven by low RBC practices.
