Supporting migrant returnees and communities in vulnerable situations to ...(UPLIFT)

The project contributes to the Government of Sri Lanka’s policy priorities such as the National Policy and Action Plan on Migration for Employment in Sri Lanka (2023-2027), Sub policy and National Action Plan on Return and Reintegration of Migrant Workers and the National Strategic Action Plan to Monitor and Combat Human Trafficking. Additionally, the project supports the national skills development plan which emphasises the importance of transforming the general, higher and professional education and vocational sectors in Sri Lanka to reduce the population of unskilled labour in the country. The project broadly contributes to the UN framework for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) in Sri Lanka, particularly the Outcome 3: Human security and socioeconomic resilience and the Outcome 4: Employment, Skills and Employability. This 12-months project jointly implemented by IOM and ILO and will contribute towards the sustainable socioeconomic reintegration and/or uplifting of skills/livelihood of returnees, aspirant migrant workers, socio-economically affected vulnerable communities and victims of human trafficking. Results Outcome 1: Vulnerabilities of returnees and other rural communities are mitigated through enhanced access to Sustainable Enterprises and/or resilient livelihood opportunities (IOM) ; Outcome 2: Irregular migration and human trafficking risks are mitigated through information relating to safe and regular migration, necessary technical support and tools/infrastructure to the Government (IOM); Outcome 3: Increased employability of women and men including youth (both locally and abroad) through enhanced skills development interventions (ILO) and Outcome 4: Government and other relevant stakeholders have access to evidence-based data for effective policy formulation and decision making (ILO).
