Strengthening Labour Standards in Turkmenistan: Focus on the Cotton Industry
The project between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Government of Turkmenistan focuses on addressing concerns related to the use of forced and child labour during Turkmenistan's cotton harvest. Following years of scrutiny by ILO supervisory bodies, a roadmap has been established to improve labour conditions within the cotton industry. This roadmap includes activities such as a review of Turkmenistan’s labour legislation, analysis of recruitment practices in cotton-picking, and enhancement of the labour inspection system. The cooperation aims to align national laws with International Labour Standards and strengthen the dialogue between the ILO and the Government of Turkmenistan.
