Temporary Cash Transfer to DBL Factory Workers in Mekelle, Tigray Region

The project provides temporary cash support to the DBL Factory's employees who lost their jobs due to the closure of the factory in the breakout of a conflict in Northern Ethiopia. The DBL Factory's local managers and employees are the project's beneficiaries of the cash transfer. The benefit package is a one-time payment equivalent to USD 139 for 1800 workers. The project includes the launch of the cash transfer programme via mobile text messages, followed by announcements through the Tigray Bureau of Industry, labour unions, and workers' connections. Workers who are eligible can fill out the application form, either offline or online, to receive temporary cash support. The ILO, the Bureau of Industry, and the Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Unions integrate the committee in charge of guiding the process and responding to worker's grievances.
