Enabling the AIDS response in key countries – Strengthening capacity of key stakeholders and vulnerable groups, to advocate against and address GBV stigma and discrimination
The project is part of the UNAIDS response to reducing the vulnerability to HIV, and its adverse health and social consequences, for key populations, adolescents, youth, and other vulnerable groups in key countries. Each UN agency contributes to a specific objective in this project. The ILO contributes to strengthening the capacity of key stakeholders and vulnerable groups to advocate against and address Gender Based Violence, stigma and discrimination in line with the ILO Convention on eliminating violence and harassment in the world of work (C190) and the Recommendation No. 200 on HIV and AIDS. Building over the ongoing work of the ILO on HIV and AIDS in the Africa region, the ILO intends to provide policy and advocacy support to six countries - Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – and implement the two sets of activities: advocacy, awareness raising and training on gender-based violence, non-discrimination, sexual and reproductive health and rights and rights of people living with HIV, engagement of men (addressing issues of masculinity), creation of local champions and a pool of peer educators, development of guidelines and tools; and economic empowerment of adolescent girls and young women using ILO tools and provide linkages to grants, credit providers and financial service providers.
