Intergenerational Employment: enhancing older workers’ labour market integration (INTERGEN)
Demographic shifts, including an aging workforce and growing aging populations in both developed and emerging countries, have heightened the need for effective systems to support the labour market transitions of older workers. While this challenge predominantly affects high-income countries, it is increasingly relevant for emerging and developing countries, some of which are already experiencing a declining labour force due to low birth rates. Developing aging-responsive public employment services and active labour market policies that promote intergenerational solidarity can enhance labour market outcomes for older workers and benefit young people by leveraging the skills and experience of their older peers. The ILO-Korea Partnership Programme supports such employment services and policies, which aim to activate the labour force—including women, young people, migrant workers, people with disabilities, and older workers—to address the challenges posed by low birth rates and aging societies.
