Promoting decent work in the fisheries sector in N

This intervention aims to promote decent work in the fishing sector through the application of international labour standards and by strengthening social dialogue and collective bargaining. It will support the implementation in law and practice of the Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188), building on the successful implementation of ILO global projects on promoting decent work in supply chains that targeted the fishing sector in Namibia. The intervention contributes to strengthening institutional capacities of key directorates of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation (MLIREC), the Ministry of Works and Transport (MWT), and the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), as well as employers’ and workers’ organizations and their affiliates. The ultimate beneficiaries are the women and men working and seeking job opportunities in the fishing sector in Namibia. The expected result is the adoption of an integrated approach to promote decent work in the fishing sector through social dialogue, collective bargaining, and workplace cooperation, with a view to increasing compliance with labour standards, national laws, and regulations. Targeted gender-responsive training will result in enhanced employment opportunities and improved working conditions for women in the sector.
