Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean (Phase II)

This project largely aligns with the overarching goals of the initial RBCLAC project RLA/18/04/EUR and its transitional phases RLA/22/07/EUR and RLA/23/04/EUR. This project aims to foster smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth in the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean by supporting responsible business conduct practices in line with internationally agreed principles set out in the UN, ILO, and OECD instruments, and taking into account EU regulatory and policy developments on Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and due diligence. Considering the experience of the RBCLAC Project to date and the evolving priorities of the EU, activities for Phase II are focused on: (i) improving practices by businesses and, employers’ organisations and supply chain actors on RBC, due diligence, particularly in high impact sectors such as minerals/ extractives and agriculture, in line with internationally agreed instruments and standards; (ii) improving and making coherent policy, regulatory and legislative frameworks on RBC and their implementation in alignment with RBC instruments and standards; (iii) improving the role of the workers’ organisations, civil society and communities in uptake of RBC To achieve these objectives, three categories of activities are carried out: (i) peer learning, knowledge sharing, and capacity building on RBC instruments and principles, and their operationalisation at national/subnational and/or sectoral level; (ii) research and analysis; (iii) awareness raising, technical advice and policy guidance. Research and exchange of practices conducted under this project are disseminated among public authorities, businesses, employers’ organisations, workers’ organisations, and other relevant stakeholders, including NGOs, grassroots organisations, women organisations, and indigenous and afro-descendent peoples. The project also fosters multi-stakeholder partnerships and coordination with existing policy initiatives and activities in the countries and the region, including actions supported by the EU as relevant, for maximum effectiveness.
