JustJordan – Putting the people back in planet and prosperity
The "JustJordan" intervention addresses the socio-economic challenges posed by climate change in Jordan, with a specific focus on green job creation and sustainable enterprise development. It aligns with Jordan’s commitments under the Paris Agreement, aiming to overcome barriers related to capacity, technology, and finance in implementing the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The intervention is carried out in Amman, Irbid, and nearby industrial zones, targeting the garment and food manufacturing industries. The primary beneficiaries include policy makers, social partners, and workers in these industries, with a special emphasis on empowering women and youth. Key collaborators in this initiative include the Ministry of Labour, the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), The Jordan Garments, Accessories & Textiles (JGATE,) Al Hussein Technical University, and the Islamic Development Bank. The ILO plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of policies, building capacities, and ensuring that NDCs incorporate the principles of decent work and a just transition. The expected results include the successful integration of decent work considerations into national climate and environmental policies, the implementation of green job recommendations, and increased engagement of employers and workers in climate-related actions. These efforts aim to support Jordan in achieving a sustainable and equitable economic transition.
