Work4Youth in WAEMU Africa
The new collaboration Work4Youth in WAEMU Africa involves the preparation of youth labour market and policy analysis for the eight WAEMU countries using the previous partnership as a model. The ILO leverages the YouthSTATS database, in conjunction with the ILO Employment Policy Gateway, for an in-depth analysis of youth labour market challenges and school-to-work transitions in the target countries. The studies also includes a review of current youth employment policy initiatives, both those directly targeting young people as well as those with a potential to impact youth labour market transitions significantly. Developing and conducting the analyses involves the active engagement of young people, youth researchers and other key national stakeholders. The studies are made to be unique in their coverage and significantly contribute to informing evidence-based policy making in the target countries. In producing new evidence on (youth) labour markets in the WAEMU region, the project emphasizes strengthening the capacity of young researchers in undertaking policy analysis and linking research to effective policy advice. To the extent possible, gender balance is maintained between young female and young male researchers.
