HIV/AIDS and the World of Work - Consequences for Labour and Socio-Economic Development

Objectives 1. Tto provide support to the tripartite constituents to finalize and adopt a national policy framework on HIV/AIDS. 2. To provide support to the tripartite constituents to endorse sectoral policies on HIV/AIDS prevention in selected sectors (only Ethiopia). 3. To provide technical guidance and advisory services to selected enterprises in identified vulnerable sectors of activities to develop and implement prevention, care and support programmes in their workplaces. Main activities · Provide services to government, employers’ and workers’ organizations to finalize the national policy on HIV/AIDS prevention and care in the workplace. · Hold consultations with constituents to draft a plan of action for the implementation of the national policy. · Prepare modules and training materials to undertake training for social partners on knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS as a workplace issue. · Conduct training for labour and factory inspectors to enable them to provide advisory services on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support to the sectors identified. · Conduct training for judges and labour lawyers on how to deal with HIV/AIDS issues in the enforcement of relevant laws and regulations. · Organize master trainer workshops on how to manage HIV/AIDS in the workplace, for workers within cooperatives, transport, agriculture and mining sectors in the selected countries. · Train peer educators, through the master trainers on HIV/AIDS prevention at the workplace. · Assist social partners in integrating HIV/AIDS training and education into existing workplace programmes. · Assist selected enterprises in establishing workplace programmes providing access to information, voluntary counselling and testing and support to employees and their families.
