Preventing trafficking in girls and young women for labour exploitation within China
Main outcomes include: a) key stakeholders will have been mobilized effectively to prevent trafficking in girls and young women for labour exploitation; b) integrated, effective and sustainable responses to trafficking in girls and young women for labour exploitation are in place both in sending and receiving areas and serve as ‘models’; c) national and sub-national policy frameworks and implementation capacity to prevent trafficking in girls and young women for labour exploitation will have been strengthened. Geographical concentration of project work includes the provinces of Anhui, Guangdong, Henan, Hunan and Jiangsu. Major activities have included: - the launching of 20 direct assistance action programmes, comprising of safe migration services, skills training, returning dropouts to school, and establishing activity; conducting baseline surveys and qualitative research in all 5 provinces; - holding anti-trafficking media training; conducting CP-TING monitoring mechanism training workshops in all provinces and for all partners; - conducting a comprehensive IEC campaign on the railways network to raise awareness among the target group; piloting of a life-skills training programme in rural middle schools; - making preparations for provincial and national children's forums to provide young people to voice their concerns of trafficking and anti-trafficking efforts; providing inputs to the National Plan of Action of Trafficking and other policy documents.
