Jobsnet - Employment Sourcing and Delivery System
The project set up the national database for jobseekers and vacancies in Sri Lanka. Using the latest IT technology for PES, combined with a nationwide network of JobsNet offices (19 in total), a total of about 200,000 jobseekers have been registered and for nearly 10% employment was found. At the end of the three-year project period, the initiative reached a financial break-even. The Government and the social partners agreed to continue together the free services towards the jobseekers and the paid services towards the employers. Therefore, the project turned into a private limited company, within a public-private partnership environment on 1 April 2007. This also ends the active involvement of the ILO in project management. The Government has 40% of the shares; the other social partners each 30%.
