Networking of National Institutes for Labour Studies, 2003-2004

The Networking of National Institutes for Labour Studies project was formulated by the ILO/ROAP in collaboration with the International Institute of Labour Studies (IILS) in Geneva and the Japan Institute for Labour, Policy and Training. The project was launched in late 1993 aiming at enhancing the capacity of institutes for labour studies in their high-quality contributions of operational policy advice and range of policy options available to national policy-makers and socio-economic development planners. The main objective of the network is to enhance the member institutes’ research capacity in order to provide high-quality policy advice to policy-makers and relevant stakeholders. The type of issues which the project addresses involve: design of appropriate institutional framework for social and economic development; ways in which labour institutions can contribute to economic transformation and structural changes; analysis of elements of economic reform; economic impact of alternative industrial relations systems; impact of economic globalization; employment creation, etc. The activities of the Network involve investigative studies, the organizing of regional conferences and national workshops to discuss and disseminate the results of the investigative work, and to facilitate the sharing of information among member institutes on their research and training activities.
