Improving labour systems in Southern Africa (linked to RAF/01/M55/USA)

PROJECT OBJECTIVES: Development Objective: 1. Increased labour law compliance and reform of labour laws. 2. Improved labour – management relations Immediate Objective(s): 1. Increased knowledge among employers and workers of their legal rights and obligations and the services that are available to them in terms of national labour laws. 2. More effective use of the labour administration/inspection systems. 3. Increased use of the dispute prevention and resolution systems Sub Immediate Objective(s): I.O.1.1. Increased public availability of information regarding the rights and obligations and services available under national labour laws. I.O.1.2. Increased ability of employers’ and workers’ representatives to inform workplace constituents of their legal rights and obligations and services available to them in national labour laws. I.O.1.3. Proposals to reform labour laws in Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Zambia. I.O.2.1. Increased ability of inspectors to implement the inspection process. I.O.2.2. National inspection policies and guidelines that conform to ILO standards in place. I.O.3.1 Increased ability of employers’ and workers’ representatives to guide constituents through the systems. I.O.3.2. Increased ability of inspectors, conciliators, arbitrators, judges, registrars and assessors to settle disputes.
