USDOL/ILO International HIV/AIDS workplace education programme - an accelerated response
The HIV/AIDS Workplace Education Programme aims to reduce HIV/AIDS risk behaviours among workers and to reduce employment-related stigma and discrimination. A Behaviour Change Communication pilot project is being implemented in 14 enterprises and established Workplace HIV/AIDS Committees, Master Trainers (31) and Peer Educators (248). Ten Workplace Committees have designed Workplace HIV/AIDS Policies through a process of social dialogue. 77 Master Trainers were trained for the Department of Labour to integrate HIV/AIDS in worker education programmes. Capacity has been strengthened in employers’ organizations and trade unions. HIV/AIDS prevention was integrated in ongoing ILO projects: the Factory Improvement Project, Jobs Net and Youth Employment Network. Capacity of Lanka plus (organization of positive persons) was strengthened by training 14 Peer Leaders. The project is targeting male migrant workers and trained 17 Master Trainers for the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
