If these customs are extended to business operation the results can be disastrous. At least one SIYB trainer - the Madang District Individual and Community Development Organization - is specifically addressing this issue in its training and providing advice on how to navigate around it in a culturally appropriate way. Similar customs operate in other Pacific Island countries and this lesson could be applicable in projects implemented in these locations.
